Sarah Prenovitz (PhD, Economics, Cornell University) is an associate at Abt Associates and an applied micro-economist focused in the areas of disability and education. Dr. Prenovitz’s disability policy research has addressed the effectiveness and implementation of return-to-work, benefit navigation, special education, and other programs for people with disabilities. She has also studied the effects of the Social Security Disability Insurance application process. Dr. Prenovitz also conducts research on education and workforce topics including reactions to school accountability policies, the factors influencing career paths for people with PhDs in the humanities, use of and need for family and medical leave like that mandated by the Family and Medical Leave Act, and the effectiveness of the second round of Health Profession Opportunity Grants in increasing education and employment outcomes. Dr. Prenovitz chaired the panel presentations on “Return to Work” and “Early Intervention” and on “Benefits Counseling and Case Management” and “Implementation Lessons” at Lessons Learned from SSA Demonstrations: A State of the Science Meeting.
