Robert Weathers (PhD, Economics, Syracuse University) is the chief research officer in the Office of Retirement and Disability Policy at the Social Security Administration (SSA). He is responsible for implementation of the Foundations for Evidence Based Policymaking Act of 2018 and coordinating the agency’s evidence-building activities. Dr. Weathers research focuses on the design and evaluation of SSA’s random assignment demonstration projects, including work on the Accelerated Benefits Demonstration, the Benefit Offset Pilot Demonstration, and the Benefit Offset National Demonstration. He co-edited a book on disability statistics, and he has published journal articles and policy briefs that describe the effects of disability policy on the employment and program participation of individuals with disabilities. Dr. Weathers co-authored the forthcoming chapter volume “Use of Demonstrations” and presented it with Austin Nichols at Lessons Learned from SSA Demonstrations: A State of the Science Meeting.
