Leslynn Angel (BA, Social Work, Marygrove College) is the president and CEO of Michigan United Cerebral Palsy (MI-UCP). Prior to the formation of MI-UCP in 2020, which merged United Cerebral Palsy Association of Metropolitan Detroit (UCP/Detroit) and United Cerebral Palsy Association of Michigan, Ms. Angel served as president and CEO of UCP/Detroit. Ms. Angel’s involvement with UCP/Detroit stretched to the national level as part of the United Cerebral Palsy Association Employment Team, providing technical support to the U.S. Department of Labor funded One Stop to Success project. As the vice president of programs, she was responsible for overseeing all programs at UCP/Detroit and securing funding. In addition, she was the coordinator of the Social Security Administration funded Benefits Planning Assistance and Outreach Project, Rehabilitation Renaissance Project, and coordinator for the UCPA Choice Access Project. She also served as director of the Work Incentives Planning Assistance Project and oversaw the Michigan, Benefit Offset National Demonstration and Program Opportunity Demonstration. Over the years, Ms. Angel has worked successfully at assisting individuals with significant disabilities find employment, utilizing customized employment. Her experience includes training vocational rehabilitation counselors and others and introducing choice-based philosophies and technology into the vocational rehabilitation system. She is a seasoned professional with over 25 years of experience in nonprofit management and extensive experience in grant management and program development. Ms. Angel co-facilitated the discussion of the “Benefits Counseling and Case Management” presentation at Lessons Learned from SSA Demonstrations: A State of the Science Meeting.
