John Kregel (EdD, University of Georgia) is professor of special education and disability policy at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). He currently serves as the research director at the VCU Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (VCU-RRTC) and is co-Principal investigator of the VCU Work Incentive Planning and Assistance (WIPA) National Training and Data Center, which provides training and support to 82 Social Security funded WIPA programs across the country. In the past 20 years, VCU has been directly involved in five Social Security funded demonstrations, including the State Partnership Initiative, Youth Transition Demonstration, Benefit Offset National Demonstration, Supported Employment Demonstration, and Promoting Opportunity Demonstration. Dr. Kregel also served as a consultant on the original Ticket to Work evaluation and as a subcontractor on the Mathematica Disability Research Consortium. He has testified before Congress five times on employment and return to work issues for Social Security disability beneficiaries. Dr. Kregel co-facilitated the discussion of the “Benefits Counseling and Case Management” presentation at Lessons Learned from SSA Demonstrations: A State of the Science Meeting.
